Gasoline Surfers

Jun 11, 20262 min read

A limited hoodie, tee, and hat rooted in the overlap between car culture and surf culture. A name that only makes sense once you’ve been to both.

The name goes back further than the collection. Cory Dawson, founder of Young Psychos, grew up obsessed with cars — but the idea for Gasoline Surfers has its roots in windsurfing.

“I grew up windsurfing — that was the original obsession before cars took over,” says Dawson. “When I spent time in California, I kept seeing how car culture and surf culture lived in the same space. Same people, same energy, same brands. That connection stuck with me. Gasoline Surfers is basically where those two worlds finally met.”

California cemented it. Being around car culture and surf culture at the same time — seeing how both communities lived in their gear, how surf brands built identity around a lifestyle — made it clear the concept had legs. Two cultures that look different on the surface, but share the same obsessive energy underneath.

Gasoline Surfers includes a heavyweight fleece hoodie ($299), a combed cotton tee ($109.99), and a hat ($79.99). Every piece features original artwork from Alex Ramon Mas — illustration rooted in the heritage of automotive culture.

Alongside the apparel, Young Psychos is releasing 48 skateboards featuring a design created in collaboration with Oasis Skateboard Factory — a Toronto District School Board alternative high school where at-risk youth earn credits building boards by hand. The original prototype was designed and built by Oasis students. Young Psychos chose to produce additional boards featuring their design to give more back to the school than commissioning a single board would provide. All proceeds go directly to Oasis.

“Young Psychos has always been about people who build things — cars, brands, a way of life,” says Dawson. “These kids are doing the same thing.”

Gasoline Surfers is YP’s second drop, following the brand’s first artist collaboration with Rome-based calligraphy artist Warios (@warios1). Young Psychos is building a consistent series of limited artist-led drops, each tied to a specific creative direction and released as a single run. No restocks.
